Dr. Syed Wasif Gillani is an accomplished academic leader, researcher, and educator in the field of pharmacy practice, currently serving as the Associate Dean (Academics) and Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, UAE. Dr. Gillani holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical Pharmacy (2013) and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Clinical Pharmacy (2009) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) from the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Pakistan, in 2006. His academic and research expertise spans various domains, including patient safety and medication adherence, drug utilization reviews, clinical trials, antimicrobial stewardship, and evidence-based pharmacy practice. A prolific researcher, Dr. Gillani has contributed extensively to the scientific literature, with numerous peer-reviewed publications focusing on antibiotic prescribing behaviors, interventions to enhance antimicrobial stewardship, and the clinical efficacy and safety of pharmacological treatments. His research portfolio includes studies on antibiotic de-escalation strategies in pediatric patients, the role of favipiravir in SARS-CoV-2 management, and assessments of pharmacists’ knowledge and confidence in antimicrobial stewardship programs. As an academic leader, Dr. Gillani plays a pivotal role in curriculum development, accreditation processes, and the enhancement of pharmacy education at GMU. He is committed to fostering innovation in pharmacy practice, strengthening interprofessional education, and driving impactful research initiatives that contribute to the advancement of global healthcare.
