Dr. Ahmed Hassan Elbanna

Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences

MSc in Pharmacognosy
PhD (Natural Products Chemistry) – University of Queensland, Australia

Dr. Ahmed Hassan Elbanna earned his PhD in Natural Products Chemistry from The University of Queensland, Australia, following his MSc in Pharmacognosy and BPharm in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Cairo University. He has also taught a wide range of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, covering pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, metabolomics, and marine natural products.

Dr. Ahmed is a natural products chemist with extensive expertise in natural products chemistry, marine biodiscovery, and metabolomics. His research focuses on isolating and characterizing bioactive secondary metabolites from plants and microbes, using advanced chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, including 1D/2D NMR and MS. He is particularly interested in discovering novel compounds with antimicrobial, anticancer, and other therapeutic properties.

He brings rich international experience, having served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Florida, USA, and GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany, where he contributed to cutting-edge projects in microbial and marine natural product discovery. Dr. Elbanna has an impressive publication record in leading scientific journals, including Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Marine Drugs, and Organic Letters.
