On March 8, 2018, 21 PharmD students visited Ajman Museum as a part of their ‘UAE Society’ course. The visit was led and organized by Dr. Ahmed Sebihi, Associate Professor of Islamic Culture & Social Sciences, General Education Department of Gulf Medical University.
Historically, Ajman museum first opened its doors in 1981. It houses a collection of archaeological artifacts, manuscripts, old weapons and reconstructions of traditional lives. This museum has two floors with many rooms depicting the history of UAE. The museum displays various cultural and historical perspectives of the Emirati people.
One portion of the museum has traditional games played by Emiratis during their childhood. One of the games is “where is your uncle”, “ wen khalk “ and “hajlah” in which the participants draw rectangles on the floor and throw a rock. Wherever the rock reaches they have to jump on the rectangles till they reach it and then return back in the same way.
In a nutshell, the Ajman museum represents the society of UAE in the past, and also shows that the culture is still preserved to show the future generations that they should not forget their past in order to learn from their experiences and also to feel proud about their history.
