PharmD Students Explore Careers in the Pharmaceutical Industry

As a part of the co-curricular activities at the College of Pharmacy, year 4 PharmD students visited the pharmaceutical plant of Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries Manufacturers (Julphar) in Ras Al-Khaimah on Monday, November 11. The visit started with a brief talk given by Dr. Rubina Rafiq, Head of Julphar Training Center, about the different departments supporting the pharmaceutical industry and their impact on the workflow of the manufacturing process and the quality of the final products; e.g. quality assurance, quality control and regulatory affairs. Then, the student went in a tour to Julphar I & VI Pharmaceutical Plants where they oversaw manufacturing and packaging of solid and liquid dosage forms, respectively. This visit gave the students a clear practical perspective of the real world in relation to the production and quality control of pharmaceutical products. The field visit was a direct application emphasizing knowledge gained from the different pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical analysis courses in PharmD curriculum. Moreover, it was a good opportunity for our students to explore their interest in pharmaceutical industry as a future career.
