PharmD APPE Interns Organize Community Awareness Event: Your Health During Ramadan

On Monday 18th April 2022, Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) interns organized a community awareness event on managing health during Ramadan and changes to various chronic disease medications during fasting. The event was held in the grounds of Thumbay University Hospitals in two sessions; morning and evening after Iftar hours. Posters elaborating on non-pharmacological managements of Cardiovascular, Renal, Gastrointestinal and Nutritional health as well as Diabetes were covered. Changes needed in medicines use with respective to chronic diseases were also covered. The counselling session was focused on need of individual visitor.

This activity was an initiative of APPE rotations highlighting the competency of leadership and innovation. Two rotation groups of Internal Medicine and Disease State Management were involved in the planning and organising of this event.

Dr. Dixon Thomas, Associate Dean Clinical, College of Pharmacy commented, “Talking professionally to people from community prepares students to be socially accountable once they reflect on their experience systematically”.
