
Gulf Medical University has a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in action with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City – Ajman (SKMCA). Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students undergo their inpatient hospital pharmacy practice rotation at the hospitals in SKMCA. SKMCA is a Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited public healthcare institution in Ajman. It has three hospitals in the same campus including the general hospital, women and children hospital, and the Rashid Center for Diabetes and Research. SKMCA is operated by GHP Specialty Care, a leading private specialist healthcare provider in Sweden.
PharmD students at the College of Pharmacy Gulf Medical University undergo their experiential education in Thumbay Hospitals Ajman, Dubai, and Fujairah, Thumbay Clinics, Thumbay Pharmacies, University of St. Joseph, USA, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and Tawam Hospital Al Ain in addition to SKMCA.
Dr. Johan Hiselius, the Pharmacy Director at SKMCA, oversees three pharmacy operations at SKMCA. On February 14, 2019 Dr. Hiselius visited our College of Pharmacy at GMU to explore avenues to enhance our existing academic-healthcare partnership. This will include experiential education, joint research and guest lecturing.
Dean Khalifa commented that such collaborations improve integration between academia and healthcare and benefit all parties as practice, education, and research are inseparable. Such collaborative efforts will drive the pharmacy profession in UAE to the next level.
