Mariam and Sara, GMU PharmD students successfully complete their Cardiology rotation at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi

Two of the Final year GMU PharmD students completed one month of their Cardiology rotation in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, during April-May 2019. It was a good opportunity and rich experience for the students to gain knowledge and experiences under the supervision of Cardiology Preceptor Dr. Bassam Atallah, and get exposed to complex pharmacotherapy related issues in Cardiology. Through ward rounding with the Cardiology team (Physician, Clinical Pharmacist, and Nurses), students were able to learn and see different Cardiac related cases on Heart failure with co-morbidities, patients with valvular heart diseases and cardiomyopathy (ischemic and non-ischemic), in addition to a heart transplant patient. During the rotations, students also delivered presentations on the ‘Usage of DOAC in LV thrombus’ and ‘Advanced heart failure in a 16-year-old patient’, referring the updated clinical evidences. During this clinical experience, students also visited the Outpatient heart failure and anti-coagulation clinic, followed up patients and titrated their medications to the target doses.
