Gulf Medical University’s College of Pharmacy signs MoU with Washington State University

On September 22, 2019, College of Pharmacy, GMU signed a memorandum of understanding with the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Washington State University (WSU). The collaboration between the two colleges preceded the agreement signing in the flolowing ways:

  • WSU faculty are teaching in GMU Master in Clinical Pharmacy program.
  • Final year students from both colleges are working on answering drug information questions and comparing answers as a benchmark exercise.
  • Collaborative publication of the Elsevier book: Clinical Pharmacy Education, Practice and Research; [Link]
  • Joint symposium between GMU and WSU on “Advances in Pharmacy Practice: USA & UAE Perspectives”
  • Collaborative research project and co-supervision of Master’s in Clinical Pharmacy Student on influenza vaccination
Immediate future plan includes;
  • Establishing and running the Center for Drug Information and Evidence-based Pharmacy at Thumbay University Hospital
  • Student exchange
  • More research collaborations
GMU College of Pharmacy Dean Sherief Khalifa commented: This is a unique collaboration that is expected to result in a state of the art drug information service in Thumbay University Hospital. The service will be run by licensed pharmacists who are academicians in the College of pharmacy at GMU and in continuous consultation with drug information experts from WSU. A center of excellence is coming to life soon and will serve to enhance clinical pharmacy services in Thumbay hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. This will also provide an excellent training opportunity for our PharmD students at GMU.
