On the occasion of October as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, 27 students from GMU Pharmacy Students’ Association (GPSA), in collaboration with colleges of medicine and nursing worked together on October 26 to organize and implement the numerous activities throughout the breast cancer awareness event. The students from the 3 different colleges presented posters regarding signs and symptoms, how to do self-examination and healthy lifestyle habits to reduce the risk of breast cancer. They engaged with the visitors, answered their queries and resolved their doubts regarding breast cancer. For general health check-ups, students also took part in measuring blood pressure and helping the visitors determine their BMI. The healthcare students also offered tips to manage healthy weight and blood pressure. The students had also prepared a variety of games such as jigsaw puzzles, word searches and quizzes which made the whole program more interactive and increased the visitor’s engagement. There was also a ‘message of hope’ board where visitors shared encouraging messages for cancer patients. Throughout the event, the students gave away brochures (designed by GMU Pharmacy students) which have key information on breast cancer including self-examination tips and signs and symptoms.
