On Nov 26th, 2024, GPSA and GMU-IVPN student club held a Typhoid Awareness event in the University’s foyer. This event sought to educate students about typhoid fever, its prevention, and the importance of good hygiene.
The foyer was filled with informative posters detailing essential information regarding typhoid, including symptoms, transmission, and prevention strategies. The posters emphasized the critical role of sanitation, clean water, and vaccination in reducing the risk of infection.

To immerse students further, organizers set up a series of interactive games that tested attendees’ knowledge of hygiene and disease prevention. Students answered trivia questions and participated in challenges, with prizes awarded to the winners. These activities made learning fun and accessible while reinforcing the importance of public health practices. In addition, hand sanitizers were distributed to all attendees as a practical reminder of the importance of hand hygiene in preventing the spread of typhoid and other diseases.

“We wanted to make learning about typhoid prevention interactive and engaging for students,” said Maryam Suleiman, GPSA Projects Officer. “By combining education with fun activities, we hope students will take this knowledge beyond the event and into their everyday lives.”
The event was met with an enthusiastic response from the student body, with many spectators visiting each stall. Numerous students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn about such an important issue in a relaxed and engaging environment.

“We’re thrilled with the turnout today,” said Salama Alhammadi, the president of GMU-IVPN student club. “This event is not just about raising awareness — it’s about inspiring students to make a deeper commitment to hygiene and disease prevention. By empowering students with the knowledge and tools to prevent typhoid and other preventable diseases, we’re encouraging them to become active participants in promoting public health in their communities.”

This event marks the first collaboration between GPSA and GMU-IVPN student club, providing a powerful platform for educating the next generation of healthcare professionals and equipping them with the knowledge needed to protect their communities from preventable diseases.
