The College of Pharmacy participated in a visit organized by GMU to 11th and 12th grade high school students in Al Mawakeb Al Khawaneej school in Dubai. During this visit, Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Clinical Lecturer at the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University & Clinical Pharmacist/Preceptor at Thumbay University Hospital, presented to the students about the Career Development Cycle, the importance of mentorship, different career paths for pharmacists and the description of the newly implemented 6-years combined BPharm – PharmD program. He also shared several examples about the activities, success and growth opportunities offered at the college for its undergraduate and postgraduate students. Finally, Dr. Ahmad ended the session with videos from GMU CoP alumni who are currently working in different places who shared their experiences post-graduation about the current workplace challenges and opportunities.
On another day, the College of Pharmacy invited 12th grade students from Ajman American Private School where they conducted a practical experiment on the synthesis of Aspirin in the Drug Discovery laboratory, followed by a tour in the college of pharmacy labs and Thumbay University Hospital. Then, Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini along with 2 PharmD students have presented to the students the Career Development session along with an overview about the PharmD program at the college of pharmacy along with real student life experiences and achievements shared by the 2 PharmD students.
