GMU College of Pharmacy Celebrates the Annual World Pharmacists’ Day

On 23rd September 2022, College of Pharmacy celebrated the annual World Pharmacists’ Day (WPD) under the theme Pharmacists: Advocating for Our Patient and Our Profession.  This year’s theme aims to showcase pharmacy’s positive impact on patient health and on the pharmacy profession all around the world. Doctor of Pharmacy students from all 5 years gathered on this momentous occasion to celebrate their profession and achievements.

Prof. Sherief Khalifa, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, commenced the celebration with his inspiring words and reminded the students about what it means to be in the pharmacy profession, the evolution of the profession, and motivated the students to be better health care professionals.  Shortly after these opening remarks, compiled video messages recorded by different pharmacists inside and outside UAE, who shared their insightful perspectives about their diverse and important roles as pharmacists in different countries all over the world. Next, The GMU Pharmacy Students’ Association (GPSA) presented their accomplishments in one year and their promotion to be granted International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) Membership.

The guest of honor, Prof. Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of Gulf Medical University shared an encouraging note and emphasized the importance of being a trustworthy pharmacist and how GPSA is contributing to the overall mission and vision of GMU of leading healthcare education and practice in UAE and beyond. Finally, GPSA conducted a thrilling game of Jeoparty which involved students from across the 5 years and tested their pharmacotherapy knowledge and quick response with a fun game of and interaction with the audience.

At the end of the event, students and faculty members engaged in a cake-cutting celebration in honor of the World Pharmacists Day 2022, which is the 6th WPD celebrated at GMU in consecutive years since 2017.
