GMU APPE Students Organize A Career Development Session

On April 15th, 2022, 5th year APPE students Jamila Ojochenemi Abdullahi, Jeffin Varghese Reji and Omaimeh Nasiri organized a career development session under the title “Expectations and Paths After Graduation: A Panel Discussion” as part of their academic pharmacy rotation requirements. The members of the panel were a mix of GMU faculty/clinicians and International speakers.

Senior PharmD students, nearing graduation were the target audience. The focus was to give insight about real professional life expectations after graduation from pharmacy school, learn about the post graduate residency opportunities and recognize the job market entry pathways. Questions were geared not only towards post-graduate pathways and studies but also on workplace ethics, how to stay motivated and avoid burnout, and employer-employee relationships and how to deal with a difficult line manager. The discussion also highlighted how pharmacy degree is a passport to endless global opportunities.

The organizing APPE students commented on their experience for organizing their first ever career counselling session/panel discussion. “Organizing this session provided us with valuable insights and experience on how sessions are organized and managed. We look forward to more opportunities to develop and improve our skills in communication, coordination and across all aspects of event management.“
