On March 19th, 2022, 5th year APPE students Amrutha Mohan, Anber Noor ul ain and Asma Mahmoud Hag Ali organized an online webinar under the title ‘How to Lead in The Workplace’ as part of their academic pharmacy rotation requirements. Dr. Ahmed Aldemerdash, the guest speaker, who is an Assistant Professor at King Saud University, Consultant Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy Specialist and the Chairman of the Pharmacy Scientific Council in Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
Senior PharmD students, who will soon graduate and join the pharmacy workforce, were the target audience. The webinar focused primarily on how to build trust with your teammates and if the goals should be achieved in a longer or shorter period of time when entering a new workplace. Dr. Aldemerdash shared valuable life lessons with the students such as “Being a leader does not mean knowing more than anyone else. Recognise, encourage and promote others as experts. Give them the trust and autonomy to be creative and do excellent work, defined in their terms. You simply provide the direction, so that this excellent work contributes to a shared purpose.” Also, he advised the students that “If you align your passion with your purpose, you will find fulfillment in whatever you choose to do in life”.
The organizing APPE students commented on their experience for organizing their first live webinar, Organizing this webinar provided us with a good taste of how the webinar world works and helped us to achieve the goals and objectives of this webinar. We were able to develop our webinar planning skills in basic understanding of the event, organization, communication and coordination.
