On Monday, December 13th, the College of Pharmacy had a joint seminar between the college faculty research seminar and the master in drug discovery and development (MDD) seminar series. The talk was given by Dr. Muhammad Adbullatif, Associate Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University.

Dr. Muhammad gave a talk titled “Towards better understanding of the new lanes to treat neurological and mental disorders”. He focused on several animal models and experiments they are utilizing in his research group in various neurological disorders. He also mentioned how they make use of such models to discover new approaches and pathways that could help in the treatment of such neurological diseases. In addition, such animal models could, be utilized to enhance the discovery and screening of new possible compounds to treat several diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, depression, ischaemic diseases, and other related neurological disorders.
Dr. Muhammad is currently involved in a research project covering the development and characterization of a therapeutic vaccine intended for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. The multidisciplinary aspect of his research encompasses molecular mechanisms involved in various inflammatory disorders and diabetes.
