On April 12, Dr. Sherief Khalifa, Dean College of Pharmacy & Vice Chancellor for Quality and Global Engagement delivered a 3-hour Webinar workshop titled: “Developing a Modern Competency Based Pharmacy Program”.

The workshop is part of a course series focusing on international best practices related to teaching excellence in Pharmacy Education. The aim is to create a cohort of qualified professionals who can drive educational reform within the Egyptian nation. The workshop included the evolution of pharmacy education and the pharmacy profession over the past 100 years, the desired attributes of a pharmacy graduate, and pharmacy program learning outcomes, and competencies. Practical challenges faced in the mapping of courses to learning outcomes, assessment of learning outcomes, assessment instruments and the assessment cycle were discussed and analyzed. Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) were an important part of the discussion as they are the tasks that all new pharmacy graduates must be able to perform without direct supervision at the pint of entry to practice.
The course workshop sponsored by Egyptian Knowledge Bank (a national initiative aimed to build Egypt’s knowledge economy by providing Egyptians with the tools, content, and training) and organized by Knowledge E in collaboration with Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education (ACPE). Knowledge E is an international services and products provider specializing in supporting academia across the MENA region.
