Dr. Doaa Mostafa Shares Insights on Innovative Solutions to Tackle Biofilm-Forming Pathogens

On Thursday, December 5, 2024, Dr. Doaa Mostafa, Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the College of Medicine, Gulf Medical University, delivered an engaging research seminar titled “Innovative Approaches of Anti-Biofilm Agents to Combat Biofilm-Forming Pathogens.” The event attracted faculty members from various colleges and postgraduate students enrolled in the Master’s in Drug Discovery and Development program.

Dr. Doaa Mostafa, holds Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Microbiology and Immunology from Cairo University, Egypt, in addition to a Master’s degree in Business Administration MBA and a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy, UK.

Dr. Doaa shed light on several key areas of her research, including Genomic analysis of healthcare-associated pathogens, and investigations into antimicrobial and anti-biofilm properties of various agents. Dr. Doaa introduced a structured framework for addressing biofilm-related challenges, encompassing the pathogen, the surface, the biofilm, and the method. Throughout the seminar, she delved into three pivotal research articles, using them as case studies to highlight strengths and future research directions. To enhance interaction, she facilitated a Padlet-based activity, encouraging participants to collaboratively evaluate the articles and identify potential areas for further exploration.

The session concluded with a lively question-and-answer session and it reinforced the value of interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
