Dean Sherief Khalifa course leader on Teaching Excellence in Pharmacy Education

On october 28 & 29, The College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University  was spreading best practices in Pharmacy Education in Egypt. The two day workshop was titled: Teaching Excellence in Pharmacy Education. The participants were professors from different Colleges of Pharmacy in Egypt with the majority from Al-Azhar University. The workshop covered the evolution of pharmacy education and practice, SWOT analysis for the current situation of pharmacy education in Egypt, pharmacy program learning outcomes, curriculum design, Integration, Assessment, national and international accreditation and the way forward.

The workshop was timely, especially after the recent Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) resolution changing all pharmacy programs to a 6-year PharmD program. The audience and the course leader believe that the change by the MOHE is a step in the right direction as it will make the pharmacists better prepared to serve their patients and at the same time, it will serve to elevate the profession and position the pharmacist as a major player in the healthcare team.

The course was sponsored by Egyptian Knowledge Bank (a national initiative aimed to build Egypt’s knowledge economy by providing Egyptian’s with the tools, content, and training) and organized by Knowledge E (an international services and products provider specializing in supporting academia across the MENA region).
