College of Pharmacy Participates in “Evidence based Medicine” Workshop

On December 22 nd and 23 rd College of Pharmacy Faculty at GMU attended two days’ workshop on “Evidence- Based Medicine” held at ThumbdayMedicity, Ajman. The workshop was given by the experts in evidence-based medicine: Prof. (Dr.) Kameshwar Prasad MD, DM, MMSc, FRCP(Edin), FAMS, Dr. Manya Prasad Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Community Medicine NDMC Medical College, Prof. HosamHamdy Chancellor, Prof. Manda Venkatramana Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof. Tatiana llle Head of General Education Department and Prof. JaydevanSreedharan professor of Epidemiology at GMU.

On Day 1 of the workshop the speakers gave talks about formulating clinical questions and how to find the best evidence, how to search the different databases and to select the evidence best answers the clinical question. Second day Dr. Kameshwar took the lead to explain the components of meta-analysis and how clinicians could read and abstract the relevant data to their practice.

Faculty and preceptors of pharmacy practice participated in multiple group exercises including formulating aclinical question based on PICO, identifying the risk of bias in a paper and critically appraise a given meta-analysis paper using GRADE method.
