College of Pharmacy joins hands with Thumbay hospitals in the fight against Diabetes in UAE

On November 14, 2019, College of Pharmacy students and faculty organized a community engagement event with the purpose of raising awareness about diabetes, educating the public on methods of prevention as well as early diagnosis and lifestyle changes that can prevent diabetes or reverse pre-diabetes.
College of Pharmacy PharmD students worked side by side with the nursing team as they offered free checking of blood glucose. They also had a chance to interview patients together with College of Medicine interns. This was an excellent interprofessional education experience for our PharmD student that will certainly help prepare them for interprofessional collaborative practice after graduation.

Dean Khalifa commented: It is important for our students to work closely with other students and practitioners from all health professions on such an important cause. Pharmacists being advocates for their patients and for their profession is one of the major learning outcomes of our PharmD program. We are privileged to be part of a strong academic health system where academia and practice work together naturally.
