A community engagement activity was conducted for the employees of Al Moalajah Company in Ajman on the 1st of November, 2023. This initiative was carried out by the College of Medicine in collaboration with Thumbay University Hospital, Thumbay Dental Hospital, and Thumbay Institute of Population Health. It involved participation by medical and dental interns and students from Healthcare Management and Economics program. Additionally, a clinical nutritionist and dietitian from the Thumbay University Hospital volunteered her services.

The health program had three main focuses: first, screenings for height, weight, and blood pressure. Second, to educate the employees on healthy lifestyle practices including dietary habits, exercise routines, and the significance of maintaining a normal range of BMI and blood pressure levels. Thirdly, dental check-up was performed by dental interns, and tailored education was provided. Students from Healthcare Management and Economics efficiently managed registration for each participant.
The sedentary nature of office jobs, with employees seated for extended periods, increases the likelihood of weight gain. Maintaining a normal BMI range is crucial in reducing the risk of various conditions such as diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, cardiovascular diseases, and hypertension. Regular monitoring of blood pressure is essential for overall heart health. Routine oral cavity check-ups prevent excess plaque buildup, which, if left untreated, can lead to bacterial growth, infections, and dental issues.

The program successfully achieved its objectives of screening and educating participants, providing valuable knowledge on healthy living practices encompassing diet, exercise, and oral health maintenance. Both the management and participants expressed their satisfaction with the program. The leadership of Al Moalajah, Ajman extended their gratitude to Gulf Medical University for its dedication to enhancing the health and well-being of their staff and promoting awareness about health and wellness.
