Gulf Medical University conducted a Breast Cancer Awareness campaign by organizing enlightening talks at East Point Indian School, Ajman on October 10, 2023 and at India International School, Sharjah on October 24, 2023. The initiative aimed to educate and empower female students and staff with knowledge about breast cancer screening and the crucial importance of early detection. Dr. Shameema Asif Muhammed, Specialist Gynecologist and Clinical Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Thumbay University Hospital, served as the resource person for this event, which was organized by the Master of Public Health (MPH) students from the Department of Community Medicine.

Dr. Shameema shared valuable insights into the significance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer. The talk covered various aspects of screening methods, emphasizing the need for regular check-ups and the role of self-examinations in promoting a proactive approach to women’s health. Interactive sessions, Q&A segments, and informative visuals were incorporated in the presentation to enhance the learning experience and ensure that the message resonated with the audience.

The breast cancer awareness talk was timed to coincide with the October Pink Ribbon Campaign, a global initiative dedicated to spreading awareness and fostering a sense of responsibility toward breast health. By aligning the event with this campaign, Gulf Medical University reinforced the collective effort to make breast health a priority. The talk left an indelible impact on the students and staff of both India International School, Sharjah, and East Point Indian School, Ajman. This initiative not only raised awareness but also inspired a sense of responsibility encouraging individuals to prioritize their well-being. The event serves as a testament to the power of education and community involvement in creating a positive impact on public health.
