MBBS students actively participated in free mega health camps at Thumbay Hospital Day Care at Sharjah as part of community engagement
Free Health Camps were organised by Muweilah and Rolla Branches of Thumbay Day Care Hospitals in the Emirate of Sharjah. The camps were organized in the month of January 2018 as part of CSR initiatives of the Thumbay Group. Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Hon. Chancellor, Gulf Medical University was the Chief Guest for the camps and formally inaugurated them.

More than 2000 patients attended the camp who benefitted from free doctor consultations and relevant investigations. The 4th year medical students played an active role in these health camps as part of their community engagement activity which included triaging, initial assessment of the patients, appropriate referrals and assisting the doctors in management of patients who attended these camps. Student’s feedback about their experiences during the health camp includes:

“My experience at the Thumbay Free Health Camp was very educative, where I was able to interact with a great variety of patients and see a multitude of cases, which helped broaden my clinical knowledge. Interacting with patients also helped me to understand their perspective, their worries, and what they expect from doctors. It was a day well spent, and I look forward to more opportunities like this in the future”. Afreen Ilyas Baig

“The health day camp was a tremendous opportunity for me as a medical student to see and interact with patients having a variety of disorders. The experience helped in clinically applying my current medical knowledge on patients. I hope for more health camp events in the future, for better patient exposure”. Maria Bautista
