Department of Clinical Sciences

The Department of Clinical Sciences plays an essential role in translating knowledge and skills learnt during foundational years of medical studies into practice in the clinical environment of hospitals. Students in the clinical years of education need to get ready for practice in the real world. The department intricately connects to and interacts with the educational goals in the preclinical years to ensure that students get exposed to clinical sciences and hospital environment at the earliest stage of their education.

A team of faculty members specialized in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, anesthesia, critical care, emergency medicine, ENT, ophthalmology, and psychiatry, guides, supervises, and assesses the students during their rotations and education in those clinical specialties. To expose our students to the maximum number of patients, clinical postings are not only possible in the Thumbay Group Hospitals and Clinics, but also in reputed academic teaching hospitals across the UAE such as Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, King’s College Hospital London, Dubai, American Hospital Dubai, Rashid Hospital, Dubai Hospital and Al Amal Psychiatry Hospital in Dubai, and Primary Health Clinics for Family Medicine in Emirates Health Services.

Apart from delivering the clinical phase of the medical program, the department guarantees the continuation of the training of our medical graduates in the internship program essential for eligibility to independent practice in the country. The department plans to offer residency training programs in various specialties in the near future in our own NIHS accredited Thumbay University Hospital.

The department fosters clinical research, organizes continuous professional development workshops, and encourages students to be part of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals as well as in national and international conferences.

The ultimate mission of the department is to advance medical knowledge, improve clinical practice, foster innovation and evidence-based medicine, integrate medical ethics and professionalism, and educate future healthcare professionals according to the needs of the population with a focus on clinical-reasoning and decision-making.
