Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and Economics (B.Sc HME) Year 1 students of the Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare (CoHME), Gulf Medical University (GMU) accredited by Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), Ajman, organized an event during their Medical Terminology Course to display the ‘Purpose of Medical Terminology in Health Professional Practice’ on December 22, 2022. Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and Economics program at GMU prepares business professionals with a deep understanding of the health industry, its language and unique culture.
Within the scope of management in the healthcare industry, routine usage of medical terminology in communications of day-to-day professional responsibilities is essential. Medical terminology allows health professionals to understand each other, and fulfill one’s roles accordingly, for patient care and safety, insurance, delivering medicine and billing.
The students used posters and activities to exhibit and explain the origin of medical terminology, current practice, and the future of health management through Artificial Intelligence. They advocated the role of medical terminology in helping health management professionals to fully understand staff communications and training and increase compliance to fulfill their roles in maintaining a safe environment for both patients and employees.
The organizer, Dr. Liju Susan Mathew, Lecturer in the Anatomy Unit of Biomedical Sciences Department, College of Medicine, observed “The student showed enthusiasm in their participation and willingness in learning new concepts”.
First year students of BSc.HME program mentioned that ‘It helped them understand the relevance of medical technology evolution and advancement in healthcare sector. The activity was both fun and educational; and enjoyed preparing the project and interacting with the audience.’
Dr. Moon Moon Haque, Dean, CoHME stated ” Students engaging in such activities in this course emphasizes real-world application and facilitates students for competent practice of planning, execution and administration of quality health services as well as research in their future as health economic practitioners.”
BSc.HME program at GMU will present rewarding career opportunities as healthcare business professionals in hospitals, health authorities, pharmaceutical companies, biomedical startups, government, and health organization, medical insurance, medical research centers, health consulting firms, medical device companies and medical tourism.
