
On January 6, 2019, an orientation program was held at Thumbay Hospital Ajman for the 2014 cohort of PharmD students currently entering Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE).
The Dean College of Pharmacy Prof. Sherief Khalifa addressed the students on their roles and responsibilities during APPE rotations and emphasized the importance of APPE in shaping their careers and future goals. He motivated the students to be a team player, and apply the knowledge and skills gained during their academic years at GMU, in providing pharmaceutical care.
During his address, Dr. Hillol Kanti Pal, Medical Director Thumbay Hospital Ajman emphasized the changing paradigm of pharmacy profession and urged the students to be an integral part of healthcare system and learn and contribute as much as possible during their APPE rotations.
Dr. Dixon Thomas, Chair of Department of Pharmacy Practice highlighted the student evaluation process during APPE rotations and advised the students to be task-oriented and not to miss any learning objectives linked to each rotation.
Mr. Suraj Sebastian, E-Learning Manager & Lecturer at Gulf Medical University demonstrated the students on the process of daily log in ‘Taskstream’ and further emphasized on online evaluation of the daily log by preceptors.
Dr. Shabaz Mohiuddin and Dr. Jumana AL Salloum, the Clinical preceptors at Thumbay Hospital Ajman listed the activities and instructions to be followed daily, and further explained the identification and management of various Drug Therapy Related Problems using the latest Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe (PCNE) guidelines.
The GMU Academic Health System provides an enhanced option for the students to get trained in range of academic health centers under GMU.

GMU students are privileged with their experiential training opportunities at our own hospitals (Thumbay Hospital Ajman, Dubai and Fujairah), Thumbay Clinics and Thumbay Pharmacies throughout UAE. Besides the GMU Academic Health System, this cohort also receive their APPE trainings at the GMU’s MoU partners Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Ajman, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Julphar Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries, Ras Al Khaimah.
The Faculty and clinical preceptors congratulated the students for the academic achievements and wished them for a wonderful APPE.
