Clinical Training Orientation for Master in Clinical Pharmacy Students at Cleveland Clinic, Abu Dhabi

Master in Clinical Pharmacy (MCP) students from College of Pharmacy, GMU visited Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD) on December 18, 2018.

College of pharmacy, GMU has enrolled its first cohort of MCP students in this AY 2018-19. The MCP program offered by the college is in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), United States. The collaboration includes experts from CCAD and VCU contributing to curriculum delivery. CCAD is also a clinical training site for certain specialty rotations including Parenteral Nutrition, Infectious Diseases and Cardiology. This orientation visit is special and marks the beginning of MCP clinical training at CCAD. CCAD is already a site for Advanced Pharmacy Practice rotations (APPE) of GMU’s Pharm D program.

The MCP students were welcomed by Dr. Osama Tabbara, Executive Director, Department of Pharmacy Services at the team huddle meeting. Dr. Rania El-Lababidi, Senior Manager, Pharmacy Education and Training took students to a tour of pharmacy department and discussed the clinical rotations at CCAD. The students visited Sterile Preparation Unit, Inpatient Hospital Pharmacy and Ambulatory Pharmacy departments during visit. Dr. Rania commented that she is amazed to see this very motivated and enthusiastic cohort of MCP students from GMU.

Dr. Osama Tabbara had a group discussion with all the MCP students and has encouraged all students to select a specific area of practice and master it. The visit inspired the MCP students to make an impact and bring a positive change at individual practice site.

The product will no doubt be outstanding pharmacists who will lead the change in the pharmacy profession in UAE and the region.
