On October 04, 2018 Ms. Etedad Nour Alla Fadl Elbasier, a student in the Master in Clinical Pharmacy (MCP) program at Gulf Medical University presented a Continuing Medical Education (CME) seminar to Clinicians at Thumbay Hospital, Ajman on Pain Management.
Ms. Etedad has 12 years of professional pharmacy experience and is currently working as Pharmacist in-charge at one of the pharmacies in the Thumbay Hospital, Ajman. With her studies in the new GMU Master in Clinical Pharmacy, she will advance her knowledge and Clinical Expertise to be able to better serve her patients.
The presentation started with a case on a sports-related injury. Later, the discussion went on to include different types of pain and the presenter shared three typical case examples of how she assessed the pain with questions on history, signs, and symptoms. She then discussed the non-prescription drugs or products that she dispensed to her patients. In all these cases she later received feedback from her patients indicating that her care plan was safe and effective. Ms. Etedad also covered the situations where she would refer a patient with pain to a physician. These examples show very well within the professional competency limits the role of the Pharmacist in managing health problems of ambulatory patients.
A habit of reading research papers related to her practice and access to drug information resources helped Ms. Etedad in answering clinical questions from patients and physicians. Professor Sherief Khalifa, Dean College of Pharmacy encouraged all Master in Clinical Pharmacy students to present in CME events to fulfil their role as educators for other healthcare professionals.
