MDD Student Jamila Abdullahi Shines in Oral Defense with Cutting-Edge Drug Delivery Research

The College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University is pleased to announce the successful public oral defense of Master of Science in Drug Discovery and Development (MDD) student, Ms. Jamila Abdullahi, held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at GMU campus in Lecture Hall 1.

Her thesis, titled “Preparation and Evaluation of Tadalafil Loaded Nanoemulgel Transdermal Delivery System for the Management of Cold-induced Vasoconstriction: A Potential for Raynaud’s Phenomenon,” focused on the development of an innovative transdermal formulation to address the challenges associated with Raynaud’s phenomenon (RP). The condition, which causes reduced blood flow to extremities in response to cold or stress, was targeted using a tadalafil-based nanoemulgel designed to enhance drug permeability and therapeutic efficacy. The research demonstrated that the novel formulation was thermodynamically stable, exhibited favorable pharmacokinetics, and effectively counteracted cold-induced vasoconstriction, offering a promising alternative to conventional oral therapy.

The examination committee included distinguished experts:

  • Prof. Kenneth S. Alexander (External Examiner, University of Toledo, USA)
  • Dr. Moawia Altabakha (External Examiner, Ajman University)
  • Prof. Shery Jacob (Main Supervisor, GMU)
  • Prof. Sai H. S. Boddu (Co-Supervisor, Ajman University)
  • Dr. Muhammad Abdullatif (Co-Supervisor, GMU)
  • Prof. Shahnaz Usman (Co-Supervisor, RAK Medical and Health Sciences University)

The College congratulates Ms. Jamila Abdullahi on her outstanding work and successful defense and extends appreciation to all committee members for their valuable contributions.
