Dr. Juny Sebastian, Assistant Professor and Acting Chair of the Pharmacy Practice Department at Gulf Medical University, delivered a session titled “Strengthening Medical Device Safety: Materiovigilance Perspectives from the Middle East” during the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) – sponsored ATAL Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Materiovigilance: Amalgamating Global Regulatory Frameworks, Quality Assurance, and Safety Practices for Medical Devices.” The FDP was organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru, India, and held from December 16 to 21, 2024.

Dr. Juny’s session took place on the third day, December 18, 2024, providing participants with valuable insights into materiovigilance principles and practices, highlighting its significance in ensuring medical device safety and enhancing healthcare quality. The session also shed light on the Middle East’s approach to materiovigilance, highlighting regulatory frameworks, initiatives, and best practices adopted in the region to ensure the safety and efficacy of medical devices. This perspective provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of how global standards are implemented in the Middle East.
