On Wednesday 9th October 2024, the GMU Pharmacy Students Association organized an informative and enriching webinar, on the Occasion of World Mental Health Day, titled “Understanding Mental Health: Nurturing Well-being in Everyday Life.” The event featured a thought-provoking presentation by Professor Mayssah El Nayal, a respected Student Wellbeing Officer and a professor of Clinical Psychology and Personality at Gulf Medical University.

The webinar, attended by different healthcare students, provided valuable insights into the importance of mental health, with a particular focus on managing stress, recognizing early signs of burnout, and developing healthy coping mechanisms. Professor Mayssah shared practical strategies for students to prioritize their well- being, social determinants which causes poor wellbeing, sharing classification system of mental health disorders and how to seek support when needed.


Attendees actively engaged with the session, asking insightful questions about maintaining mental health in a high-pressure academic environment. The event served as an essential reminder of the importance of mental health and the resources available within the university to support students.
Students were encouraged to continue the conversation and access available support services provided by the GMU’s Student Wellbeing Center.
The webinar was part of GPSA’s ongoing efforts to promote mental health awareness and provide students with the tools they need to thrive both academically and personally.
