GMU College of Pharmacy Produces “Critical Thinking in Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process” Series on Accesspharmacy Global Platform

For the first initiative of its kind, The College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University collaborates with AccessPharmacy/McGraw Hill Publishers – the top global educational website containing plenty of educational resources that are used by most of the pharmacy school around the world. This collaboration entailed producing a series GMU PharmD student-led videos under the theme: “Critical Thinking in Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process: A Series for Students by Students.” The pharmacists’ patient care process, in short, the PPCP, is a step-wise clinical problem-solving approach which was developed by the Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners. Pharmacists utilize this process to systematically identify, define and resolve drug-related problems as well as to assure consistency of care in all applicable healthcare settings. It consists of the steps: Collect, Assess, Plan, Implement and Follow up: Monitor and Evaluate. Three 3rd year GMU PharmD Students, Ms. Nikita Sunil, Ms. Sana Patanwala, and Ms. Amrita Mukherjee, were the core part of this project as they came up with the idea and delivered 5 episodes, 1 episode for each step of the PPCP model, in a student-focused approach. These students explained to their thousands of pharmacy students peers around the globe on how to implement this process in their daily training and post-graduate work environment to ensure optimal patient care outcomes. This project was supervised by Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Clinical Lecturer, College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University and Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist, Thumbay University Hospital. These 5 videos were recorded and edited on GMU premises, and then published on AccessPharmacy main website page. As this collaboration milestone is achieved, both GMU College of Pharmacy and AccessPharmacy/McGraw Hill publishers agreed to expand the series and continue this fruitful collaboration of serving the students and pharmacists education and professional development worldwide.
