GMU Pharmacy Students’ Association Hosts World Immunization Week Community Event in Collaboration with College of Medicine and College of Nursing

World Immunization Week is a global public health campaign aimed at raising awareness and promoting the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. The World Immunization Week Community Event held at Gulf Medical University on April 30, 2024, was a collaborative effort focusing on public health education and community engagement. The event served as a platform for students and faculty members from different colleges to come together and exchange knowledge on various aspects of immunization.

The event saw active participation from various colleges of GMU, with representatives from the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and others covering different topics such as; recommended vaccines for children and adults, the impact of immunization on reducing vaccine-preventable diseases, and the laboratory support required for the surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases. Notably, GPSA also played a pivotal role in coordinating and executing the event.

Under the co-supervision of Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini (Clinical Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice Department) and Dr. Doaa Mostafa Elsayed (Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences), GPSA members had designed an insightful poster presentation on innovative approaches to vaccine development. As a member of GPSA and a representative from the College of Pharmacy, GPSA initiated this session, highlighting recent advancements in vaccine research and technology.

In addition to the poster presentation, GPSA members worked collaboratively to discuss how the pharmacy field could contribute to the development of future vaccines for patients. This collaborative effort aimed to explore the role of pharmacy professionals in vaccine research and development, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing immunization efforts.

Furthermore, the event allowed students to showcase their work to different professors who attended the event. These professors not only provided valuable feedback but also appreciated the efforts of the students, encouraging them to continue their contributions to the field of immunization.

Through collaboration, innovation, and education, GMU continues to play a vital role in promoting immunization and safeguarding public health in the region and beyond.
