On August 26, 2024, GMU PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) students attended orientation sessions for the 10 months intensive journey of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE). APPE consists of 6 compulsory and 4 elective rotations, with the Clinical seminar being longitudinal throughout the rotations.

GMU PharmD students have the unique advantage of being trained for the Prescribing Skills Assessment exam by the British Pharmacological Society towards the end of APPE. They also build their portfolio throughout APPE to be job-ready. The importance of clinical pharmacists’ roles in improving patient safety was reiterated with real-life examples. Students were addressed by Dean Prof Muhammad Al-Shorbagy, TUH Medical Director Dr. Fozi Dakilah, faculty, and preceptors.
GMU APPE students are privileged to be trained in Thumbay University Hospital (TUH), Thumbay Clinics and pharmacies throughout UAE (Thumbay, Modern, BinSina, Z’Neem, Al Ain, Al Thiqa, and Noora Pharmacies) in addition to other sites such as American Hospital Dubai, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Ajman, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, LIFEpharma, Thumbay Hospital Ajman, and Thumbay Hospital Fujairah. Some students also go for one of their rotations in GMU partner institutions hospitals at Egypt, Virginia Commonwealth University USA, Washington State University USA, and University of Iowa, USA.
