Dr. Pallav Sengupta Illustrates Antioxidants Potential for Male Infertility at College of Pharmacy Research Seminar

On Thursday, February 15th, 2024, the College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University hosted a research seminar featuring Dr. Pallav Sengupta, from the Department of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Medicine, Gulf Medical University.

The seminar was titled “Therapeutic Potentials of Antioxidants: A New Frontier in Male Infertility Treatment”.

The seminar drew an audience of Master’s in Drug Discovery and Development candidates, along with faculty members from the colleges of pharmacy and medicine.

Renowned as a Physiologist with expertise in Reproductive Medicine, Dr. Sengupta has published over two hundred research articles and book chapters, with his current Scopus h-index being 37 and Google Scholar h-index 48. Dr. Sengupta has been consistently ranked among the Top 2% Scientists in the World by Stanford University, USA, since 2019. He has also been ranked 1st among the Infertility Research Experts (also in the sub-specialty of Male Infertility) in Malaysia, UAE, and India by the ExpertScape.

During the seminar, Dr. Sengupta delved into the impact of oxidative stress on male reproductive disorders and infertility, shedding light on the mechanism of reactive oxygen species’ actions in the male reproductive tract. He emphasized the need for continued research to determine the optimal dosage and regimen for administering antioxidants to mitigate reductive stress effectively.

The session concluded with a thorough and fruitful discussion, providing attendees with valuable insights into the implications of using antioxidants and their potential benefits for patients with various disorders, whether idiopathic or unexplained.
