Two students from the Master of Science in Drug Discovery and Development (MDD) program at Gulf Medical University showcased their groundbreaking research at the recent 2nd AAU Health and Biomedical Postgraduate Symposium held at Al Ain University’s Abu Dhabi campus on February 8th, 2024.
Marium Ansari, a dedicated student in the MDD program presented her poster titled “Hunting for Neuroprotection: Navigating the ER Stress Pathway in an Induced Huntington’s Disease Model.” Her work delves into exploring novel therapeutic avenues for Huntington’s disease, a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder.

Nourhan Khaled, another promising scholar from the program, delivered an oral presentation on “Statistical Optimization of Stable Quercetin Nanoparticles for Tumor Targeting.” Her research focuses on enhancing the efficacy of drug delivery systems for targeted cancer therapy, contributing to the advancement of precision medicine.
The symposium, organized by the College of Pharmacy at AAU, served as a platform for postgraduate students to showcase their research, interact with peers and experts, and explore various career opportunities in the biomedical field. The event featured engaging talks, panel discussions, and scientific and social activities, providing participants with a holistic learning experience.
Both Marium and Nourhan’s presentations garnered attention and acclaim from the audience, reflecting the caliber of research conducted at Gulf Medical University’s College of Pharmacy. Their participation not only showcased their dedication to advancing scientific knowledge but also highlighted the institution’s commitment to fostering excellence in drug discovery and development.
As these students continue to push the boundaries of biomedical research, they exemplify the spirit of innovation and inquiry that defines the MDD program at Gulf Medical University.
