GMU’s Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini Delivers an Online Workshop to Lebanese Community Pharmacists on Antimicrobial Stewardship

On January 9, 2024, Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Clinical Lecturer, College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University and Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist, Thumbay University Hospital, was invited by the Lebanese Order of Pharmacists to deliver a workshop to Lebanese Community Pharmacists on Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS). This workshop is part of an educational intervention, in collaboration with the International Federation of Pharmacists (FIP), as a component of an AMS program designed for primary healthcare settings. Dr. El Ouweini educated the pharmacists about Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), AMS, and their pivotal role in the community in raising awareness about the consequences of the overuse or misuse of antimicrobials. Additionally, Dr. Ahmad discussed ethical considerations related to antibiotic dispensing, explored effective strategies to create a plan to engage in AMR community awareness campaigns and educational initiatives, and finally discussed how to assess the impact of Antimicrobial Stewardship initiatives on community health and patient outcomes.
