GMU Pharmacy Students’ Association Organizes an Online Webinar on World Antimicrobial Resistance

GMU Pharmacy Students’ Association (GPSA) hosted an online webinar titled “Role of Beta Lactams in the Emerging Multi-drug Resistant Organisms” on 29th November, 2023 featuring Dr Jumana Al-Salloum, a GMU PharmD and MCP alumnus and previous Clinical Preceptor and Lecturer at GMU CoP, and currently working as a Clinical Tutor at the University of Sharjah. This was part of the activities organized by GPSA in honour of World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week. The session delved into the critical role played by pharmacists in the global fight against AMR. Dr. Al-Salloum discussed Discuss the latest advancements in Beta Lactam-based therapies and potential future directions in antibiotic development. Additionally, the speaker explained the importance of antimicrobial stewardship in preserving the efficacy of Beta Lactam antibiotics and mitigating the development of further resistance. The webinar has attracted participation and attendance from GPSA members, GMU students, and global members from the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF).
