On July 3, 2023, Dr. Khalifa, Vice Chancellor for Quality Assurance & Institutional Effectiveness and Dean, College of Pharmacy presented on “Prescribing Skills/Safety Assessment: The GMU Story”
The presentation was part of the session titled: Prescribing Training & Practice in the Middle East & Gulf Cooperation Council for upskilling Prescribers.

One of the main objectives of the presentation was to build a consensus among academicians and regulators from the GCC and the Middle East countries on the need to use a standardized assessment tool to evaluate and enhance the prescribing skills of the prescriber with special emphasis on pharmacists.
Dean Khalifa commented: “Assuring and enhancing the prescribing skills of pharmacists will undoubtedly reflect on patient safety. Whether the regulator will grant pharmacists prescribing privileges in one year or in 10 years is not of essence at this stage. Pharmacists are already reviewing prescriptions and making evidence-based recommendations requiring safe prescribing abilities. It is our responsibility as academic institutions to give them the tools to make them practice ready when it comes to prescribing, reviewing prescriptions and providing patient centered care as part of collaborative practice with other healthcare team members.”
