GMU PharmD Students Undergo a Drug Information Rotation at Washington State University

As part of their Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE), Keerthana Selvaraju and Rahul Ashok, 5th year pharmacy students, embarked on an enlightening drug information rotation at Washington State University (WSU). This unique program offered them an opportunity to gain practical experience and develop their drug information and evidence based practice skills.

Under the guidance of experienced faculty and expert preceptors, Keerthana and Rahul delved into the intricacies of drug information, acquiring valuable skills to provide accurate and reliable information to patients and healthcare professionals. Throughout the rotation, the students were immersed in a hands-on learning environment and developed their critical thinking, communication, and evidence-based decision-making skills.

The drug information rotation at WSU provided students with an extensive overview of drug databases, compendia, literature evaluation, and pharmacovigilance, among other essential components of drug information management. The program aimed to equip students with the necessary tools to evaluate and disseminate pertinent information regarding drug therapy, adverse effects, drug interactions, and more.

The students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.

As the students concluded their drug information rotation at Washington State University, they left with a deepened understanding of drug information management, a sense of purpose, and a commitment to ensuring the safe and effective use of medications along with the ability to analyze various research papers and present journal clubs.
