Gulf Medical University’s College of Pharmacy hosted a research seminar on April 14th by Dr. Noha N. Nassar, Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Cairo University Faculty of Pharmacy. Dr. Nassar’s studies are primarily focused on signaling mechanisms and mediators associated with neurodegenerative diseases, as well as those involved in the neural regulation of circulation. Attendees included faculty members and candidates of the Master of Science in Drug Discovery and Development.
The seminar was titled “Autism Spectrum Disorder: Where does the current research stand?”
During the seminar, Dr. Nassar discussed the impact of autism spectrum disorder on the community and the molecular mechanisms behind the disorder. She also talked about her recent investigations, conducted with her research group at Ain Shams University, aimed at identifying medications that can address the root causes of the disease. Dr. Nassar explained in detail how these medications can impact the pathophysiology of autism spectrum disorder, improving its hallmarks.
Following her presentation, the attendees engaged in a discussion on the importance of utilizing the experimental data available for the medications used in treating autism spectrum disorder, in the clinical field.
