Sara Osman is a community medicine physician with 13 years of experience in strengthening the health system and medical education at the national, regional and international levels; she worked with national governments where she remained an advisor to the Ministers of Health of Sudan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan (from 2015 to 2020) and served as Director General of the Global Health Directorate at the Federal Ministry of Health, Sudan.
She has represented the Eastern Mediterranean Region on several boards of UN organizations, multilateral and bilateral institutions (e.g. WHO, World Bank, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (TGF), and the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI), etc.).
As for the medical education part, she served as Director of Accreditation for the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy in Sudan (from 2012 to 2022) and participated in setting the career pathway of health professions. She has been working with the World Federation for Medical Education as an assessor in the recognition program since 2019, partnering with other accreditation bodies, for example, the Jordanian and Egyptian Commissions.
She is currently the Director of Program Evaluation and Accreditation at Gulf Medical University. She also teaches medical students and postgraduate students in the Master of Public Health, Health Care Management, and Health Professions Education at the University of Khartoum, Ahfad University for Women, and Gulf Medical University.
