On Thursday, January 5th, 2023, Hesham Elashmouny, a student in the master’s in drug discovery and development (MDD) program at the College of Pharmacy successfully defended his Master’s thesis titled “Formulation and Optimization of Transdermal 18-β Glycyrrhetinic Acid Hybrid Nanovesicular Gels”. The thesis, which was supervised by Professor Ibrahim Elsayed, Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Professor Shery Jacob, Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His thesis examined the formulation and optimization of a transdermal gel containing 18-β glycyrrhetinic acid as an approach to enhance the properties and create a transdermal delivery system of the drug that could also be used as delivery vehicle for similar drugs and compounds.

The examination committee was composed of Dr. Mohamed Elsawy, Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Sciences department and Peptide Bionanomaterials Group Leader, Leicester Institute for Pharmaceutical Innovation, Leicester School of Pharmacy, De Montfort University, UK, and Dr. Zahid Hussain, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology at the University of Sharjah.

During the oral defense examination, Hesham was able to clearly and effectively present his research findings and defend his conclusions, demonstrating his knowledge and skills in the topic and the area of formulation. The examination committee agreed that Hesham had successfully completed his thesis and had demonstrated a deep understanding of his research.
