On March 15, 2022, a career counselling session under the “Own Your Future” Program by the College of Pharmacy’s Student Happiness Center, was delivered by Dr. Reem Al-Olaby: “The Power of the Second Attempt”.
Dr. Al-Olaby is an assistant professor of biology and biotechnology at California Northstate University, USA. She is a pharmacist (Ain Shams University Graduate) with an M.Sc. and PhD in Biotechnology from The American University in Cairo and a Master’s in Public Health from George Washington University. She has more than 12 years’ experience in the drug discovery field. In her motivational talk, Dr. Al-Olaby elaborated on her journey starting from the bachelor to the postdoctoral level, spotted all the lessons learned throughout her journey and described the process of application for each step in pursuing the career path in academia. The speaker emphasized on the fact that first attempt rejections are never the end of the story and there is always a chance for acceptance in the second attempt, whether in applying for training, research grants or postgraduate programs.
