“GMU-CNU Introduction to Teaching & Learning” A Students’ Certificate Program Day 3: Tools and Aids for Teaching and Learning

On March 5th, 2022, around forty faculty and students from College of Pharmacy Gulf Medical University and California Northstate, College of Pharmacy participated in panel discussions and presentations under the theme “Tools And Aids For Teaching and Learning “. This is a part of “ GMU-CNU Introduction to Teaching & Learning” A Students’ Certificate Program “. The program is designed to introduce the essential pedagogical aspects of teaching and learning to pharmacy students participating in peer learning programs and/or academic rotations in both institutions.

Dr. Ruth Vinall, Ph.D., Associate Professor, and Assistant Dean of Research, California Northstate University provided an overview on Active Learning Methods, Team-based Learning (TBL), and Facilitation.

This was followed by a demonstration EDPUZZLE Use For Flipping Classes by Dr. Ibrahim Elsayed, Ph.D., Director of Quality Assurance & Institutional Effectiveness, Gulf Medical University, Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy.

GMU & CNU Students shared tips on different techniques they use during peer learning. Mr. Victor Mubezi Muwanga, 3rd year PharmD student at  GMU shared with the attendee how he uses feedback as the main driver for peer learning.

While Mr. Hassan Ali Abdallah Abu Kariem, 3rd year PharmD student at  GMU shared some hacks for time management and fast achievement.

Ms. Ngoc Nguyen, a 3rd year PharmD student at CNU, shared her strategies to dress difficult topics such as pharmaceutical calculations.

While Ms. Tureye Abdulla, 2nd year PharmD student at CNU shared tips on running effective supplemental instructions sessions.

Ms. Xinge Zheng, 2nd year PharmD student at CNU shared with attendee tips on formulating questions.

Dr. Dixon Thomas,  Associate Dean Clinical, Gulf Medical University, and Dr. Welly Mente, Associate Professor, Vice-Chair Clinical and Administrative Sciences, Residency Program Director, California Northstate University engaged in a panel discussion on “Reflections on Simulation-Based learning and Experiential Education”. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Islam Mohamed, Interim Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, College of Pharmacy, California Northstate University

Finally, Dr. Suzanne Clark, Associate Professor of Pharmacology, and co-director of Center for Teaching and Learning, College of Pharmacy, California Northstate University introduced to the attendee Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and students’ confidentiality Regulations.
