Career Counselling for PharmD students on “How to Write an Impressive CV”

On November 30th 2021, College of Pharmacy’s Dr. Ahmad El-Ouweini, Clinical Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Gulf Medical University and Clinical Pharmacist/Preceptor, Thumbay University Hospital delivered a session to PharmD students titled “How to Write an Impressive CV”.  This session comes as a series of career counselling topics under Student Happiness Centre’s “Own Your Future” Program. Dr. Ahmad El-Ouweini started the session by emphasizing the importance of working on your CV in early semesters no matter what year you are in and getting the support of mentors to review student’s CV.  He then outlined and systematically explained the essential elements of an impressive CV for pharmacy students and key elements to help students’ profile stand out; explaining that in standing out, students must be able to reflect their personality, interests, work ethics, and accomplishments.

Dr. Ahmad also clarified questions raised by attending students on tailoring your CV for your job description and the recruiting organisations, using extracurricular qualification that are geared towards the career path of your interest and participating in services that highlight your main skills. He concluded by giving specific points on importance of formatting your CV with clarity and professionalism.
