PharmD Students Present and Shine in “Innovation Workshop” in “Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Hub (DIHAD)”

On 17th March 2021, Fathima Kather and Judit Elsa Don year three PharmD students, participated in “Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Hub (DIHAD) via presenting “First Aid of Asthma attack” and “First Aid for Road Accidents and Severe Bleeding” respectively. Fatima and Judith are part of the working committee of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent’s Regional Center of First Aid (IFRC) at Gulf Medical University. The working committee includes GMU students, faculty, and health professionals from various medical fields providing excellent models of interprofessional health education and practice. The working committee is initiated by the Center of Humanitarian Education of Gulf Medical University that was recently launched after signing an MOU with IFRC aiming at introducing fundamental humanitarian principles and education. Fatima and Judith are currently receiving a Train of Trainer course in First Aid organized by GMU-Center of humanitarian education and IFRC regional center of First Aid at Gulf Medical University.

Judith Elson reflected on her experience in DIHAD: Being selected as a member of “Train the Trainers program of the IFRC-GMU team brought me one step closer to my dream of being more involved in humanitarian and volunteering services. The essence of Inter-Professionalism and the importance of the involvement in different sectors of the healthcare system was reflected today and I got to learn a lot from them too. I am grateful to my university and the College of Pharmacy for giving me this opportunity.”

While Fathima Kather reflected on her experience stating: Participation in DIHAD was an eye-opening informative experience since I got to learn through my colleagues on various other situational first aid techniques.  Interprofessional education is key to understanding healthcare teamwork, and this event brought together a wonderful opportunity that.“
