‘A Pharmacist’s Career in Pharmaceutical R&D” Career Counselling Session With Dr. Mohamed-Eslam Mohamed

On 27th February 2021, College of pharmacy students from the PharmD program and Master of Drug Discovery and development students attended a career counselling session with Dr. Mohamed-Eslam Mohamed, Director of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics Research and Development at AbbVie, North Chicago, Illinois.

During the session, Dr. Mohamed introduced the drug development process, different career paths into R&D including drug discovery, formulation, clinical pharmacology, statistics, and pharmacovigilance. Dr. Mohamed advised students on the importance of identifying professional mentors, having active roles in extracurricular activities and early research exposures.

Ms. Selma Benwahmane Castell, PharmD Cohort of 2016 reflected “  I found the talk insightful as it cleared some doubts I had regarding the types of career paths available in the R&D field. Dr. Mohamed provided some great tips regarding Ph.D. application during both the presentation and the Q&A session. It was an interactive and eye-opening session.”
