During the International Patient Safety Week celebrations held in Thumbay Hospital Ajman on
March 15, 2018, three final year PharmD students Jesty Reji, Afreen Firdaus and Sonita Anwari won the “Best Poster Presentation” award.
The students displayed a poster on safe use and storage of medication at home. As summer is approaching, the main objective of the poster was to inform the general public that if medicines are not stored in the right conditions the active ingredients can be altered leading to therapeutic inefficiency and (or) occurrence side effects. The students were guided by their preceptors under whom they are currently undergoing their advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) training.
Other students from the College of Pharmacy displayed posters on; ‘correct use of meter dose inhalers’, ‘safe use of antibiotics’, ‘look alike- sound alike medications’, ‘know your health indicator numbers’, ‘computerized physician order entry’ and ‘knowledge about over-the-counter medications’.
The College of Pharmacy encourages students to be advocates for health promotion.
