
On November 22, 2019, Dr. Dixon Thomas conducted a workshop on pharmacoeconomics and budget impact analysis at Hilton Riyadh Hotel, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Saudi Clinical Pharmacy Society and Novartis organized the workshop. Two sessions in the event were;
- Effective use of pharmacoeconomic tools. The session was built on basic health economic concepts. The focus was on microeconomic tools that could be used in hospital settings. Activities included measurement of different types of costs, outcomes and calculation using value assessment frameworks.
- Budget Impact Analysis model: Methodology, Guidelines and Case Studies. Activities included disability-adjusted life years, budget impact analysis and scenario analysis.
Pharmacists from different hospitals participated in the workshop. The workshop was part of capacity building efforts to prepare pharmacists to make better decisions on affordable use of medicines.
